Home Audits:

An audit is often the best choice for a homeowner wanting to improve their existing home’s energy efficiency. An Energy Audit is somewhat less technical than an Energy Rating, and is less costly. Every one of our Energy Audits includes a Retrofit Analysis; this information provides each homeowner valuable tools to make the best ENERGY VALUE choices for each project.

Energy Ratings & Design Consultation:

HERS LogoHERS Ratings (Home Energy Rating System), also known simply as Energy Ratings, are required for a number of building programs/certifications, including Energy Star for Homes.   We can help you make the best possible decisions regarding sustainable energy systems and energy efficiency.  Bridgewater will design and certify your new construction or remodel project.

  1. Builders / Architects: These ratings are extremely useful to determine (prior to construction) whether a design idea is worth pursuing from an economic vs. energy point of view. Are triple pane windows worth the cost? Should I install foam on the exterior of my building? What is the payback? We can help you answer these analysis questions.
  2. Home Owners: Benefits of a rating include identifying exactly which improvements yield the best "Bang for your Buck." Having a score for your home also demonstrates compliance for homeowners interested in getting an Energy Efficient Mortgage and demonstrates a home's energy performance upon its' sale.

Energy Efficient Mortgages:

As the single largest housing expense after a mortgage payment, your utility costs can have a direct impact on how large a mortgage you can afford. You can save money on the cost of utilities by purchasing new energy-efficient heating and cooling systems or by making home improvements, such as weatherizing and insulating older homes and these investments can end up saving you money through lower utility bills.

As a new homebuyer or current homeowner, you may be able to use FHA's Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) to finance the cost of these improvements.

In the following example, a homeowner can afford to purchase $33,000 more home if the home is made to be energy efficient.
